Pet obesity awareness month officially launched

Pet obesity awareness month officially launched

This month leading veterinarians and clinics have teamed up for a common cause – to boost obesity risk awareness in cats and dogs.

The main aim of the campaign is to educate pet owners about the importance of maintaining their cats’ and dogs’ healthy weights through adequate health nutrition and exercise. This is extremely important to prevent other serious issues that could lead to respiratory problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and more.

A full list of the participating clinics can be found at www.borg-cardona.com/PetObesityMonth or can be provided by email upon request.

What does the term ‘obesity’ mean?

Obesity can be defined as an excess of body fat that is enough to impair health, welfare and quality of life. It can affect all types of pets, and the main cause is eating too much or not exercising enough, although some diseases can also cause obesity. Obesity is generally 20-25 per cent above the ideal bodyweight.

Pet obesity awareness month – The Campaign

This month Royal Canin is celebrating Obesity Awareness Month. In the next few weeks we would like to help you and your pet get back in shape.

This campaign is also being supported by the Parl. Sec. Roderick Galdes, on behalf of the Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights and administered by Borg Cardona & Co. Ltd.

How does it work?

Like in humans, weight loss is a process which cannot be achieved in a few days.  Therefore though the campaign focus was launched during June 2014, while support and follow ups are also available during the coming months – helping you to get your pets back in shapre.

We encourage all pet-owners to ask their vets for more information about the Royal Canin Pet Obesity Campaign and learn more about how they can claim their free bonus points, gifts and scientific information pack from Royal Canin.
